  • Description

Surveys and studies confirm that Agile is fast, but it's not always smart. Teams can radically optimize delivery, but sometimes at a cost - not enough time for strong discovery. But who is responsible for 'discovery' - ScrumMasters, BAs, PMs, product owners, developers, testers? Yes...And! We envision that agile teams and workgroups benefit from a role that combines the best skills and competencies of Project Management and Business Analysis, and we think the role should be called "Discovery Lead". It's not a title, or a single person necessarily and certainly not a certification. Perhaps it's as much a mindset or an orientation. It's more like a baton in a race. Different runners can pick it up at different times. At the team level, Discovery Leads define strategic moves, quickly validate innovative opportunities, and help all team members articulate the case for siezing initiatives and taking bolder bets. At the program and portfolio level, they build shared organizational motivation and seed culture changes that make way for funding highly differentiating epic stories and more radical release trains. Discovery Leads make complex situations, if not 'solvable', at least 'solutionable' and 'actionable'. This session will invite you to articulate, validate and debate with us just what this role of Discovery Lead is and what competencies and skills are required. We will present our current working state model and would love to hear from you how and where these nextgen competencies might fit into your portfolio, especially over the next few years.
